Branding that you know will get you a good night’s sleep

When it comes to looking for a new mattress there is one brand that most people recognise not only from its name but the logo it’s been synonymous with for many years, and that brand is Silentnight. Based in Barnoldswick, Lancashire, Silentnight is the UK’s largest manufacturer of beds for the home the company was originally formed by Tom and Joan Clarke, under the name Clarke’s Mattresses Limited in 1946 in the North Yorkshire town of Skipton. In 1949 the company moved to a larger site this time to Barnoldswick where they are now due to a large increase in demand, then in 1951 the company changed its name to Silentnight and were producing more than 4,000 divan beds a month.

Silentnight are also famous for their Hippo and Duck characters which feature on their logo, these characters were first created to show the company’s unique “No Roll Together” properties of a Silentnight bed. However these two characters now seem to have an identity of their own and are used in most of the company’s marketing and effectively in their children’s adverts.

The company’s brand recognition and popularity is show in their figures, in their first 60 years they manufactured 40 million beds, they also make approximately 1,800 beds a day and a Silentnight bed is sold every 90 seconds.
